Joe Richer
Golf & Basketball Coach

Joe Richer graduated from Everett High School in 1961. He was a true “Favorite Son” of Everett High. Joe was ASB President, a star basketball player, and golfer for the Seagulls. He attended Western Washington University on a basketball scholarship, where he was a two-sport letterman on the basketball and golf teams. As a Viking, he was named a 2nd team All-American in golf and later named to the WWU All-Century golf team. In 1968, with a real allegiance to his Blue & Gold alma mater, Richer returned to Everett High where he became a teacher, coach and counselor for 30 years. He was the head coach of the boys basketball team from 1973 until 1984. A great competitor and mentor, he led the Seagulls basketball team to 4 Wesco Championships and earned a berth to the state tournament three times, finishing second-place in 1975. Many consider the 1975 team as the best team in Seagull history. As the boys golf coach from 1970 through 1988, he guided the Seagulls to 9 Wesco titles.

In honor of his memory, the basketball court at Everett High was named Richer Court, and the annual Joe Richer Memorial Scholarship Award was established to benefit young athletes. His positive force and legacy also lives on through the Joe Richer Junior Golf Club, and the Joe Richer Memorial Golf Tournament.
