Jill Mayer

Jill began competing in Special Olympics at the age of twelve and continues to compete over thirty years later. Her career started on the Everett Schools Special Olympics Team, where she participated in basketball and track & field. Following her graduation from Everett High School, she joined the Everett Independents Special Olympics team. This team competes in a variety of different sports including rhythmic gymnastics, tennis, basketball, golf, swimming, bowling, and soccer. Due to hard-work and perseverance, Jill ended up doing well in local, regional, and state competitions, which eventually led to her qualifying for Special Olympics World Games.

In 2003, Jill was selected for Team USA at the Special Olympics World Games in Dublin, Ireland. Jill won one Gold Medal and four Bronze medals for rhythmic gymnastics. She also met Special Olympics founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, and her daughter, Maria Shriver.

In 2011, Jill was again selected for Team USA, this time for the Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece. She won a Silver medal in Golf Skills. In 2017, she won a Gold Medal at the Special Olympics North America Invitational Golf Tournament in Redmond, WA with United States and Canadian golfers.

Jill’s incredible journey continues and is one she very much enjoys. It is a challenge, but because of her tenacity and supportive family and friends, she has persisted and found success. Jill consistently gives back to the Special Olympics community by participating in fundraising efforts sponsored by Everett and State FOE Eagles Auxiliary organizations.
