Carol Quarterman-Kummerle, a swimmer since the age of 5, graduated from Cascade High School. While there she was the first female freshman from Everett School District ever to qualify for the girls’ state swim meet. She captured 1st place on the first district championship for the team winning nine of the 11 events. At state she swam in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events.

She graduated and swam for Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) and was a member of the Northwest Conference Championships Team and they were First Team All Americans. The Lutes also won the conference title all four years and did not lose a dual meet while Carol was on the team. With Carol’s competitive contribution, the Lute’s finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively in the national team standings at the national meet.

Her personal accolades include 25 Northwest Conference titles. In 1986 she was an individual NAIA 200 Backstroke Champion, and a member of the National Championship Relay team in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay and the 400 Medley Relay. At the national championship meet she finished in the top 6 in 27 out of 28 events. As a co-winner of the PLU Senior Athlete Award, Carol was inducted into the Hall of Fame for PLU in 1986.
