From July 21-22, everyone at the Snohomish County Sports Commission helped out at the Soccer Post Northwest two-day summer camp at Kasch Park in Everett.
All 100 campers received a free t-shirt and soccer ball, and players who didn’t have cleats were given a free pair.
Also in attendance was former Seattle Sounders FC defender and Panama national team captain Román Torres. In 2016, Torres netted the game-winning shot of the penalty kick shootout against Toronto FC to give Seattle its first MLS Cup in franchise history. His defensive dominance also played a role in helping the Sounders lift its second MLS Cup trophy in 2019 after claiming a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC. In-between those exciting and historic years, specifically on Oct. 11, 2017, Torres rocketed a shot into the back of the net to give Panama a 2-1 win against Costa Rica. With the United States losing 2-1 to Trinadad and Tobago, Torres’ goal helped slot his home country into its first ever World Cup in 2018.
