Event Recap: 2026 Lake Tye Triathlon thrives again as premier water event in Snohomish County
August 21, 2026

There’s a family element to every sports event. Whether it’s a night out at the ballpark or watching mom, dad or the kids compete in the local triathlon, encouragement from a loved one means much more than winning a medal.

That family support is exactly the reason why the Snohomish County Sports Commission volunteers at the annual Lake Tye Triathlon in Monroe. Seeing family members do the following — cheer on their loved one as they wake up at the crack of dawn to dive into Lake Tye, swim around buoys, ride a bike down Fryelands Boulevard and complete a 1.63-mile run around the lake all before crossing the finish line and receiving hugs — checks off every objective of hosting a successful event.

The 2026 Lake Tye Triathlon on Aug. 1 hosted more than 430 competitors, mostly traveling from across Washington state while receiving a few out-of-state visitors. And while the 17th-annual, USA Triathlon-sanctioned event, didn’t include the Olympic distance this year, the Sprint, Duathlon, Aquabike and youth races still provided a pleasant Saturday for all ages and skill levels at the 42-acre park. The Sprint distance was a 1/4-mile swim, 14-mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run and the Duathlon a 1.5-mile run, 14-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.
