For more than 75 years, the Evergreen State Fair, held at the 193-acre Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, has put smiles on the faces of thousands of adults and children.

There’s a different theme each year, and “reflect(ing) on our nation’s past, recogiz(ing) those who helped build it and honor(ing) the traditions that continue to shape our community,” the Evergreen State Fair chose the “Barn in the USA! Celebrating America’s 250” theme to celebrate the final days of summer.

The 11-day event, with the final outing taking place on Labor Day, provided eventgoers all things from pony rides, equestrian, rodeo, Courtyard Stage performances, the International Lumberjack Show and the Sky Valley Antique Tractor Display and Pedal Tractors, to a variety of farm animals, 4H judging competitions, several shopping, food and beverage vendors, intense racing at Evergreen Speedway (the only NASCAR venue in Washington state), various Grandstand entertainment and many twists and turns on carnival rides.

“Each year, history is woven into every corner of the fair. From the delicate artistry of lace making, quilting and spinning in the Display Hall, to third-generation exhibitors proudly leading their dairy cows in the showring, tradition is alive and thriving,” according to an article on the fair’s website. “It lives on through the multigenerational families involved with Skykomish Valley Indian Education and the cultural programming of the Longhouse. It echoes in the excitement of the International Lumberjack Show, captivating audiences for more than four decades, and in the pride felt as the rodeo drill team rides into the arena to present the colors. These moments, both big and small, form the fabric of our shared culture, preserving our heritage while inspiring future generations.”
