We’re excited to announce that Scarlette Chapman and Basil Hendrix were selected as 2026 Snohomish County Female and Male Collegiate Athletes of the Year!
In 2026, Chapman put together the most historic season in Edmonds College softball history. She rewrote nearly every offensive record and led the conference in batting average (.577), home runs (29) and slugging percentage (1.253). At Edmonds, she set single-season marks for batting average, home runs, runs batted in (106) and on-base percentage (.606) among other offensive statistical categories.
The lefty swinging middle infielder was honored as the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) North Region MVP and was selected as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NWAC All-American at second base. She finished as the runner-up for NWAC Player of the Year and was also an NWAC Academic All-Star. Additionally, she served as a key starter in the circle for the team, posting a 12-1 record with over 100 innings pitched. She fanned 105 batters with a 4.74 ERA and 1.90 WHIP.
Chapman is a local product who hails from Kamiak High School. After high school, she played for the University of California San Diego her freshman season before transferring to Edmonds for her sophomore season. This past summer, Chapman accepted a scholarship offer to join the softball program at the University of Washington where she will compete as a Husky for Heather Tarr. She plans to major in education studies.
Sophomore pitcher Hendrix has not only dominated the mound in the 2026 Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) baseball season but has also put together one of the most remarkable pitching careers in the proud history of Trojan baseball.
The Woodinville native rewrote the Everett record books, breaking both the single-season and career-strikeout records. Hendrix recorded 96 strikeouts in 2026 and finished his career with 172 — surpassing the previous career mark by an incredible 45 strikeouts. He also has the most career wins in Trojan history with 18, the most career starts with 27 and the second-lowest career ERA at 1.66 for a starting pitcher.
In 14 starts last season, Hendrix was virtually untouchable, posting a perfect 10-0 record while throwing 78 innings with a stellar 1.85 ERA. Throughout his career, he recorded double-digit strikeouts five different times, including a dominant 14-strikeout performance in one game and an 11-strikeout outing against Pierce College during the NWAC Championship Tournament.
His consistency, competitiveness and dominance on the mound earned him First Team All-North Region honors, North Region Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-NWAC recognition. He was also named an ABCA First Team All-American.
Basil finished his AA at Everett and is continuing both his academic and baseball career at NCAA Division I George Mason University.
Both Chapman and Hendrix will be honored at the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame 2026 Induction Banquet on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Dinner tickets are $125 per person or $1,100 for a table (10 people). Tickets can be purchased at snocosports.org/banquet.
